CONTEXT: Why?
San Marcos has been a community divided by tribal mentality, preferring familiar pride over greater community unity. This created circumstances which made it difficult, often impossible, for individuals to have their needs met.
CASA COMUNIDAD IS OUR SOLUTION
STATUS REPORT
Currently, Casa Comunidad is in the process of legally becoming a "Non-Profit Civic Association." This process is expected to be complete in three months (90 days).
The Center: Casa Comunidad is committed to operate powerfully, effectively and efficiently. The majority of "teaching and learning" will be done on a volunteer basis. The Center will operate with the lowest possible overhead, and therefore, most all the money donated will be used to (first) set up the space and then to provide services to the community. Negotiations are underway with the local owner to obtain a long term lease (14 years), and simultaneously other potential properties to rent or buy are being considered.
